ServiceMaster of Chattanooga began in 1963 when Richard and Bobbie West set out to find their own success. Richard "Dick" had been searching for a business oppurtunity that he and Bobbie would be able to operate to be in charge of their own destiny. He had carried, in his wallet, a magazine article which was an advertisement to own your own ServiceMaster franchise. In July of 1963, he and Bobbie purchased the first of many franchises.
